TCG Rulings
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Ritual Buster: Effects of Continuous Spell and Trap Cards that do not use the Chain remain active. For example, "Gravity Bind" or "Burden of the Mighty" will continue to apply their effects even if "Ritual Buster" is being applied as well.
OCG Rulings
- When "Gravity Bind" and "A Legendary Ocean" are on the field and a monster whose Level is 3 by the effect of "A Legendary Ocean" attacks, if "Mystical Space Typhoon" is activated and destroys "A Legendary Ocean", then the attack stops. You do not proceed to the Damage Step.[1]
- If "Gravity Bind" is activated during the Battle Step of the Battle Phase after a Level 4+ monster attacks, then the monster can neither attack nor proceed to the Damage Step. You cannot activate "Gravity Bind" during the Damage Step.[2]
- "Evil Hero Malicious Fiend" forces the opponent's monsters to attack if they are able. If the monster cannot attack because of "Gravity Bind"/"Swords of Revealing Light"/etc, then the monster will not attack. The monsters will still be changed to Attack Position, but "Swords of Revealing Light" will prevent all monsters attacking, or "Gravity Bind" will prevent all Level 4+ monsters from attacking, etc.[3]
- While "Messenger of Peace"/"Gravity Bind"/"Nightmare's Steelcage"/etc is on the field, you cannot return "Messenger of Peace" etc to the hand to attack with "Mist Valley Falcon".[4]
- When a monster equipped with "Double Tool C&D" attacks a monster and "Gravity Bind" is activated, the attack stops, but the attack target's effect remains negated during the Battle Phase.[5]
- While "Cold Wave" is active, the Continuous effects of Spell and Trap Cards which are face-up on the field will still be applied, such as the effect of "Gravity Bind".[6]
- "Ritual Buster" only prevents the activation of Spell and Trap Cards, and the activation of the effect of Spell and Trap Cards which are already face-up on the field. It does not prevent Spell and Trap Cards like "Burden of the Mighty" and "Gravity Bind" with Continuous Effects from applying their effects.[7]
- "Negate Attack" and "Gravity Bind" make it so that you do not proceed to the Damage Step, so the Life Point recovery effect of "Savage Colosseum" is not applied.[8]
- After an attack has been declared, if the attack is stopped but not negated by an effect like "Gravity Bind", then the monster is still considered to have declared an attack, so the monster is not destroyed during the End Phase by "Savage Colosseum". However, if the monster's attack is negated by an effect like "Negate Attack", then the monster is not considered to have declared an attack, so the monster is destroyed during the End Phase.[8]
- If the effect of "The Fabled Unicore" is active and the effect of a Continuous Spell or Trap Card like "Level Limit - Area B" or "Gravity Bind" is also active, then the effect of the Spell or Trap Card will remain active and will not be negated.[9]
Previously Official Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been declared unofficial by Konami.[10] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise. - If you activate "Gravity Bind" when a Level 4 or higher monster attacks, the attack stops.
- When you attack with a Level 4 or higher monster and your opponent activates "Mirror Force", if you chain "Gravity Bind" the attack of your monster stops but "Mirror Force" still resolves and destroys your Attack Position monsters.
Mentions in Other Rulings
- A Legendary Ocean: If "A Legendary Ocean" and "Gravity Bind" are active, you may attack with Level 4 WATER monsters (being treated as Level 3). If "A Legendary Ocean" is destroyed after an attack is declared, a replay occurs because the Level 4 WATER monster can no longer attack.
- Amplifier: If you have "Jinzo with Amplifier" [sic], your Trap Cards are not negated and their effects are applied, including ... "Gravity Bind"...
- Berserk Gorilla: If you control "Berserk Gorilla" you must enter your Battle Phase, even if "Gravity Bind" is active on the field, preventing it from attacking.
- Evil Hero Malicious Fiend: Only monsters that are able to attack must attack "Evil Hero Malicious Fiend"... If you have "Gravity Bind" and "Evil Hero Malicious Fiend" on your side of the field, your opponent's monsters of Level 4 or higher are unable to attack, so they cannot attack "Evil Hero Malicious Fiend".
- Gladiator Beast: If a "Gladiator Beast" monster attacks and its attack is stopped with a card effect ("Gravity Bind", ... etc.) or is negated during the Battle Step, the "Gladiator Beast" monster cannot activate its effect at the end of the Battle Phase.
- Interplanetary Invader "A": If a Level 4 or higher monster attacks "Interplanetary Invader 'A'" and "Gravity Bind" is activated, "Interplanetary Invader 'A's'" effect does not activate because the attack did not proceed to the Damage Step.
- Level Conversion Lab: The Level change from "Level Conversion Lab" lasts until the end of the turn, even if the monster is Summoned. So if you change "Summoned Skull" to Level 3, and Summon it, it can attack even if "Gravity Bind" is active.
