Forum:Advice on Winged Dragon of Ra deck

I'm Bulding a Winged Dragon of Ra deck the playable version one. All of its effects require lifepoints to use so I need help with a deck that can help gain lifepoints to use for its effects and combine it with a stall/burn deck. My deck so far goes like this

Monsters The Winged Dragon of Ra Fire Princess Hardened Armed Dragon Masked Dragon

Spells Clear World Spell Economics Spell Absorption Nightmare Steel Cage

Traps Solomn Wishes Any suggestions how to make this deck better?

I played a Ra Deck a while ago, so I can give you a couple of tips. (I suggest not using this Deck in tournaments,as I totally abused the Traditional Format rules =D)

This Deck revolves around using powerful 4-star monsters to sacrifice for Ra, but Spirit Reaper can stall and cards like Pot of Greed and Gold Sarcophagus search for it. If Ra is in the Graveyard, you can use Monster Reborn and Premature Burial to use its Special Summon ability.

Good luck, Spinz =)

He said the playable one. I've been thinking of ways to do it and the best i got was a Psychic deck that abuses the Effect Damage cards like Brain Research Lab, Psychokinesis, and Psychic Tuning along with Prime Material Dragon to make a life point profit. It's cool since Psychics work good already, just throw in Ra and, BAM! Fun in the sun (God's glory) XD--Helix-king 17:11, December 30, 2009 (UTC)

except yugi

there are 2 ra users, both bad. just steal ur opponents monster as juice. eg:mystic wok

<colourman>

Wait, so on the playable version are its attack points determined by the monsters sacrificed or not? It doesn't say anything about that on the card, and I'm not a very knowledgeable person.

It does Not. if it doesn't say it does on the card, then it doesn't.

It either has 0 attack, (but leaves you LP to use the -send- effect), or has attack based on the LP you just paid.

winged dragon of ra

I don't under stand why people are scared or concerned about using life points with this card. Its a first turn killer.... There is a simple otk use for this card. you just need three cards to pull it off. RA,Reversal Quiz, and Black Pendant. Its easy to get three tribute fodder on the field... summon RA... set black pendent.... activate Reversal quiz..... first turn kill..... All done, no fuss on muss... thank ....

Nick

I brought the Marik and Invincible Fortress deck and combined it to give me a deck for my main deck to face however the two decks worked suprizingly well together. Sending cards back to the hand or stopping them from attacking altogether worked really well. I ended up having 3+ monster cards on the field quite often so I added The Winged Dragon of Ra and will be editing the deck when I have finished with others to get it up to scratch. At the moment I can advice a few cards to enable you to have a higher chance to summon Ra and be a little orginal.

Monsters: Lava Golem Neo-Spacian Grand Mole Guardian Sphinx Wall of Illusion

Magic: Swords of Revealing Light Nightmare's Steelcage Giant Trunade (Recycle the Swords of RL/ Nightmare SC effect) Book of Moon Ground Collapse

Traps: Ordeal of a Traveler Nightmare Wheel

Probably add Reversal Quiz as Nick has said and a card to take off the last few lifepoints.

I have a question about Ra's effect. He keeps monster effects from activating, but what about continuous effects? A friend of mine had Ra out, and I summoned Raging Flame Sprite (my signature card) and attacked directly, winning the game. I assume that Ra doesn't negate RFS's ability to attack directly. Am I right?Raging Flame Sprite is AWESOME!!!!!StendikaClick here to yell at me.I haz done tihs stuph. 15:44, December 17, 2010 (UTC)

You need to activate the ability in your battle phase therefore I believe the The Winged Dragon of Ra will stop it from attacking directly however the attack bonus gained from previous attacks will remain as you do not need to 'activate' it. Decarpe (talkcontribs) 20:21, December 17, 2010 (UTC)

Actually, the ability to attack directly is a Continuous Monster Effect and thus can't be Activated. (Look on the page Actiavte. It says continuous effects never activate. Therefore, I won that duel. ((Even though I just summoned RFS on that same turn.) Raging Flame Sprite is AWESOME!!!!!StendikaClick here to yell at me.I haz done tihs stuph. 20:44, December 17, 2010 (UTC)

I am unsure it would classify it as a Continuous Monster Effect as the text on the card is 'can attack your opponent directly'. Therefore you have to choose wether to attack directly or attack normally. If it was 'it attacks your opponent directly' then you would have no choice and therefore no activation. I orginally thought it would be as you have described however after playing a few cards with similar effects in the Yu-Gi-Oh video games it asked me if I wanted to activate their effects. It is a very complex ruling so I would check it with others i'd have my doubts if I hadn't have exprienced the card effects the video games. Decarpe (talkcontribs) 23:37, December 17, 2010 (UTC)

It says on the page that it is only a Continuous effect. I think that means case closed. Besides, my opponent said on the phone today that he agreed with me (that RFS can attack directly while Ra is on the field.) BTW, do you think my deck looks good? It's posted on my userpage. Raging Flame Sprite is AWESOME!!!!!StendikaClick here to yell at me.I haz done tihs stuph. 00:06, December 18, 2010 (UTC)

It does not matter what the effect is, Ra is not a Skill Drain. The only time it can stop the activation of effects is when it is summoned. This basically means it will stop cards like Summon Reactor - SK, Trap Hole, Torrential Tribute, and other cards that say "When your opponent summons a monster". Cards that I would recommend that you consider are: Mystic Wok, Treeborn Frog, Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys, The Creator, Trade In, etc.

My winged dragon of ra deck. Hope this helps
