The Yu-Gi-Oh! Sticker Retsuden (ゆうおうシールれつでん Yūgiō Shīru Retsuden) is a set of sticker cards featuring various characters, monsters, and Magic Cards from the Toei anime series and the original manga, released by Amada in December 1998.[1][2][3]

The first set consisted of 103 stickers in total, depicting characters and monsters, comprising:

  • 75 Normal Stickers (ノーマルシール)
  • 18 Gold Stickers (ゴールドシール)
  • 9 Prism Stickers (プリズムシール)
  • 1 limited movie sticker

The stickers in this set have names and numbers, and the monsters also have stars, Attributes, ATK and DEF values.

Title[edit]

れつでんretsuden is wordplay on 「れつでんretsuden ("series of biographies"), swapping the first kanji for the homophone 烈 (meaning "violence" or "fury").

This same wordplay is used in several other series, such as Shinsetsu Samurai Spirits Bushidō Retsuden (1997) and Monster Retsuden Oreca Battle (2012).

Trivia[edit]

  • The numbers of the monsters in the set are based in their respective appearance in the original Yu-Gi-Oh! manga until the duel of Katsuya Jonouchi vs Dinosaur Ryuzaki.
  • Despite using the manga as base for the monster's names and appearances, the characters in the set are based in their appearances in the Toei anime, including anime-only characters as Kaiba's four masters.
  • The stickers representing "Polymerization" and "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" had two variants, with different numbers. The second variant of "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" was a limited version given to the attendants of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Toei movie. The second variant of "Polymerization" is an odd one, because it has the same artwork as the first variant, but with a holofoil effect (the only case in the entire set). Based of its placement and the manga appearance order, this sticker would have been produced by mistake, and the one that replaced it could have been "Time Wizard".
  • A similar set called Yu-Gi-Oh! Sticker Retsuden Super Deluxe was released in 1999, with 70 stickers in total and a variety of monsters more closed to the Toei anime.
