Omaeno, Mondai

Mondai Omaneo (まえ モンダイ Omaeno Mondai) is a character in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GO RUSH!! anime. He is a veteran member of UTS, specializing in urban rumors.

Design[edit]

Appearance[edit]

Mondai closely resembles Toombs from Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS, but significantly older. He has silver eyes and shoulder-length grey hair that he ties back over his left shoulder. He wears the orange overalls and black and white boots of UTS over a yellow shirt, and a dull green bandanna over his head.

Personality[edit]

Mondai is generally quietly-spoken until he chooses to make his presence or words known. He is extremely knowledgeable about urban legends and constantly discusses their applications. Mondai tends to punctuate his points by telling people that "whether they believe it or not is their problem".

Etymology[edit]

As with Toombs, Mondai's name comes from a Japanese phrase that he often shouts, shinjiru ka shinjinai ka wa omae no mondai(信じるか信じないかはお前の問題!, or "whether you believe it or not is your problem".

Biography[edit]

First Arc[edit]

Yuhi and Yuamu Ohdo returned to UTS with an alien named Yudias Velgear one day, who would work for UTS in exchange for learning to Rush Duel, a matter that Omaeno watched with Tazaki and Purisaki from outside the room. Unfortunately Yudias' unfamiliarity with Earth caused him to destroy the UTS phone with his eyebeams.[1]

A client arrived while Yuhi, Yuamu and Yudias were out on a job, so Tazaki kept the client waiting until they returned to the UTS Main Office. Omaeno, Maki and Purisaki accompanied Tazaki to congratulate them on a successful request. The client turned out to be an MIK agent, Manabu Sogetsu, and Yuamu ordered Yudias to run, Omaeno taking up arms with the other adults as the office was surrounded by MIK agents. Yudias challenged Manabu to a Rush Duel, so Tazaki suggested they Duel outside given the small size of the room. Yudias eventually defeated Manabu, forcing MIK to leave.[2]

After Yuamu successfully completed a high-profile request involving a culprit that attacked Yagi, Omaeno assisted in taking the numerous phone calls that poured in as a result of UTS' higher profile. He joined most of his fellow employees that evening to enjoy more of Yagi's yakitori skewers, talking with Tazaki.[3]

Yuhi found his Earthdamar, but it was stolen by Yudias' former commander, Zuwijo zir Velgear. The twins assisted Yudias in searching for Zuwijo for a week, but had no success, so Omaneo suggested they get back to work to ensure UTS had earnings for the month, recommending they investigate three urban legends he'd been keeping track of: three "Warp-Granny sisters", a bronze statue outside Mr. Sannomiya's place vanishing, and the shadow of the Flatwoods monster appearing in a warehouse. Only the last bore any fruit, as the "Flatwoods monster", an alien named Mitsuko Hiramori, had been guarding Zuwijo's hideout.[4]

Second Arc[edit]

Following Yudias' Rush Duel with Zuwijo zir Velgear, Yuamu promoted him to Chief of the Alien Investigations Division, Omaeno applauding Yudias' promotion. Manya's manager London Kirishima then visited the UTS Main Office with a request for them to find an elementary schooler who had gone missing in the Alien Residential Area, a request Omaeno in particular, who had heard urban legends about the underground, was against the twins accepting. Despite the adults' misgivings, the twins remained enthusiastic and London continued to press for them to accept the request, so to Omaeno's surprise, Tazaki Rush Dueled London to settle the matter. Tazaki's piercing strategy cornered London, and when London Tribute Summoned "Arts Angel Metal Position", Omaeno warned London it could rust. London defeated Tazaki with his own piercing effect, suggesting the experience could be a worthy challenge for the twins. After Tazaki admitted to London he hadn't expected the desire for challenge, London admitted he'd been distracting the adults to allow Yudias and the twins to sneak away, to Omaeno's shock, and the adults pursed the trio to the entrance to the Alien Residential Area. Instead of stopping them, they provided them with bento boxes and they told them the UTS family motto, encouraging them to challenge themselves for their dreams, complete the request and return safely.[5]

Omaeno and the other adults welcomed Yudias and the twins when they returned that evening having not found Yuna, but having been instructed to seek "the Informant". Yuhi was scared by a ghost that night, and the following day they learned that Yuhi had thrown all the mirrors in the building outside at the request of the "ghost". Omaeno believed Yuhi to be haunted by a Duel ghost, something he was further convinced of after Yuhi tried to cover up all reflections. Yuamu's decision to return to look for the Informant prompted the building to shake, something Omaeno attributed to a poltergeist, but Yuamu declared a UTS Special Emergency and instructed Omaeno and the other adults to create a reflective room for her in the UTS cipher, while she and Yudias carried Yuhi around the city and the "ghost" continued to attempt to obstruct them. Omaeno and the other adults prepared Yuamu's room for her and signaled its location to Yuamu.[6]

After Yudias and the twins went underground to gather Duel Power at the Coruffium, Manabu returned with Yudias and the twins, Yudias having been defeated by Yuna at the Coruffium and his Duel Disk taken from him, and all three of them having lost their Duel Power and been unable to move in the high gravity of the Alien Residential Area. The following morning, Tazaki told the twins that Yudias had vanished and he, Omaeno and the other adults warned the twins not to return to the underground before they left to search for Yudias.[7]

The Rovian Bandits visited UTS, intending to purchase the property; Omaeno and Tazaki discussed Rovian Kirishima's surname being shared with London. To Omaeno's shock, Yudias stated they would consider Rovian's offer if she Rush Dueled him, and he was further surprised when Yuamu agreed with Yudias, claiming the Rovian Bandits had made fools out of them. During the Rush Duel, Yudias was forced to play with two Monster Zones due to the damage to Valvelgear, which he was using as a Duel Disk. Yudias made a comeback with an Equip Spell Card, the same type of Spell the Rovian Bandits had been using, but Manabu was alerted by his superiors to something entering the solar system, which Rovian and her Chapeaunian Camos claimed to be the Great King of Terror.[8]
