Yagi, Torey

Torey Yagi ( トーリ Yagi Tōri) is a character in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GO RUSH!! anime. He is a veteran member of UTS and the caterer of the company.

Design[edit]

Appearance[edit]

Lineart of Torey depicting him from different angles.

Yagi closely resembles Briscoe from Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS, but significantly older. He is a fair-skinned man with blue eyes and caramel-blonde hair topped with a chef's hat. He wears the orange overalls and black and white boots of UTS over a blue shirt buttoned up and a pale yellow bandanna tied around his neck..

Personality[edit]

Yagi is cheerful and exuberant and is happy to both cook and instruct others in the skill. When he is surprised he often yells "Oh my salt!" in English, as a parody of exclaiming "Oh my God!"

Etymology[edit]

As with Briscoe, Yagi's name is a play on a Japanese meat dish: yakitori, a type of Japanese meat skewer that Yagi specializes in, meaning "grilled bird".

Biography[edit]

First Arc[edit]

A client arrived while Yuhi, Yuamu and Yudias were out on a job, so Tazaki kept the client waiting until they returned to the UTS Main Office. The client turned out to be an MIK agent, Manabu Sogetsu, and Yuamu ordered Yudias to run, Yagi taking up arms with the other adults as the office was surrounded by MIK agents. Yudias challenged Manabu to a Rush Duel, so Tazaki suggested they Duel outside given the small size of the room. Yudias eventually defeated Manabu, forcing MIK to leave, and Yagi and Tazaki came out to bring the trio in for dinner.[1]

Yagi taught Yudias how to cook yakitori, but when he went inside to get more skewers he was attacked by an alien that ate the skewers he'd retrieved. Yagi independently pursued the alien after recovering, but caught Yudias and Yuhi instead. They then heard someone calling for help, and found the alien attacking a girl dressed as "Magical Sheep Girl Meeeg-chan", but the girl turned out to be Yuamu in disguise and she challenged the alien, Chupataro Kaburagi, to a Rush Duel, to determine whether MIK could arrest him. When Chupataro Summoned and fawned over "Magical Sheep Girl Meeeg-chan", Yuamu explained he had been attacking people with tangential connections to "Meeeg-chan"; Yagi had been attacked due to to saying a similar phrase to her flavor text. Yuamu defeated Chupataro, and MIK took him away, the success of the request resulting in UTS receiving many job offers, after which Yagi tutored Yudias in cooking again.[2]

Second Arc[edit]

Following Yudias' Rush Duel with Zuwijo zir Velgear, Yuamu promoted him to Chief of the Alien Investigations Division, Yagi applauding Yudias' promotion. Manya's manager London Kirishima then visited the UTS Main Office with a request for them to find an elementary schooler who had gone missing in the Alien Residential Area, a request Yagi and the other adults were against the twins accepting due to the danger the aliens living there posed and their previous encounter with Zuwijo. Despite the adults' misgivings, the twins remained enthusiastic and London continued to press for them to accept the request, so Tazaki Rush Dueled London to settle the matter, something Yagi noted he hadn't done in a while. Yagi encouraged Tazaki's piercing strategy, but London defeated Tazaki with "Arts Angel Metal Position", a monster Yagi claimed like, and his own piercing effect, suggesting the experience could be a worthy challenge for the twins. After Tazaki admitted to London he hadn't expected the desire for challenge, London admitted he'd been distracting the adults to allow Yudias and the twins to sneak away, to Yagi's shock, and the adults pursed the trio to the entrance to the Alien Residential Area. Instead of stopping them, they provided them with bento boxes and they told them the UTS family motto, encouraging them to challenge themselves for their dreams, complete the request and return safely, Yagi entrusting the twins' safety to Yudias.[3]

Yagi and the other adults welcomed Yudias and the twins when they returned that evening having not found Yuna, but having been instructed to seek "the Informant". Yuhi then ran screaming from the bathroom claiming to have seen a ghost, and though no ghost was found, Yagi consoled Yuhi and offered to keep him company. The following day they learned that Yuhi had thrown all the mirrors in the building outside at the request of the "ghost", and Yuhi further tried to cover up all reflections, a display that convinced Yagi that Yuhi was being haunted. Yuamu's decision to return to look for the Informant prompted the building to shake, but Yuamu declared a UTS Special Emergency and instructed Yagi and the other adults to create a reflective room for her in the UTS cipher, while she and Yudias carried Yuhi around the city and the "ghost" continued to attempt to obstruct them. Yagi and the other adults prepared Yuamu's room for her and Yagi used skewers and smoke rings to signal its location to Yuamu. Yagi then joined Tazaki and Purisaki waited for them at the room. They successfully trapped the "ghost", a swarm of skyfish that coalesced into the form of the Informant, Fisher Sukai.[4] Yuamu offered new information to Sukai for information on Yuna, but Sukai revealed several secrets, including a surprise birthday Yagi and the other adults had been planning and its specifics. Despite this Yuamu still believed she had info for Sukai and challenged them to a Rush Duel, but to Yagi's shock, Sukai's info included Yuamu's Deck, countering her High Tech Dragons with anti-LIGHT tactics to avoid the effect of "Blue Tooth Burst Dragon". However Yuamu began discarding cards that didn't fit her Deck, revealing she snuck a booster pack into her Deck before the Duel and she summoned "Red Boot Boost Dragon", whose DARK Attribute and effect to return her monsters to her Deck countered Sukai's "Golondrinas Jail", allowing her to defeat them. After the Duel, Sukai admitted they didn't know where Yuna was, which suggested she was likely at the Rovian Bandits' Badloon Castle that could only be entered with the Macho Rank of Duel Power, and they offered the Coruffium as a location for Yudias and the twins to increase their Duel Power rapidly.[5]

Eventually Manabu returned with Yudias and the twins, Yudias having been defeated by Yuna at the Coruffium and his Duel Disk taken from him, and all three of them having lost their Duel Power and been unable to move in the high gravity of the Alien Residential Area. Yagi, Maki and Purisaki were with Tazaki when he forbade Yudias and the twins from returning underground, but was confused to learn that Yuna was with the Rovian Bandits of her own volition. Despite the confusion, Yuamu and Yuhi still intended to complete the job the following day. The following morning Tazaki told the twins that Yudias had vanished and he, Yagi and the other adults warned the twins not to return to the underground before they left to search for Yudias.[6] After the twins returned, they tried cooking something, discouraging Yagi from assisting them.[7]

The Rovian Bandits visited UTS, intending to purchase the property, and to Yagi's shock, Yudias stated they would consider Rovian's offer if she Rush Dueled him, and he was further surprised when Yuamu agreed with Yudias, claiming the Rovian Bandits had made fools out of them. Yagi and the other adults watched the Rush Duel, which Yudias was forced to play with two Monster Zones due to the damage to Valvelgear, which he was using as a Duel Disk. Yudias made a comeback with an Equip Spell Card, the same type of Spell the Rovian Bandits had been using, but Manabu was alerted by his superiors to something entering the solar system, which Rovian and her Chapeaunian Camos claimed to be the Great King of Terror.[8]
